Position: ICREA (Catalan Institution for Research & Advanced Studies Research Professor & Group Leader Nanobioelectronics & Biosensors, Catalan Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (ICN2), Barcelona, Spain
Specialization: Nanobiosensors, nanomotors
At the NANOCON´22 conference Prof. Arben Merkoci will present the opening plenary lecture "REASSURED Nanobiosensors for Ubiquitous Diagnostics".
Personal Background and Education:
Arben Merkoçi (60) born in Tirana has received his M.S. degree in Industrial Chemistry in 1986 and PhD. degree in University of Tirana (Albania). He was a postdoctoral fellow in Chemistry at the University of Ioannina (Greece), the University of Padova (Italy), Polytechnic University of Barcelona and New Mexico State University in Las Cruces (U.S.A.) in the field of nanobiosensors and lab-on-a-chip technologies. His postdoc periods were followed by leading positions in several laboratories: (1997-2006) at Autonomous University of Barcelona and since 2006 in ICN2 in Barcelona (Spain), where he works as a research professor and a leader of Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group.
The research of the Nanobioelectronics & Biosensors Group led by Arben Merkoçi is focused on the design and application of cutting-edge nanotechnology and nanoscience-based biosensors with interest for diagnostics. These nanobiosensors are based on the integration of biological molecules (DNA, antibodies, cells and enzymes) and other (bio)receptors with micro – and nanostructures and applied in diagnostics, environmental monitoring or safety and security. The developed biodevices are of a great interest for several applications that will significantly improve the quality and security of citizen’s life.
