At the NANOCON´26 Luděk Bláha will open the Session D – Monitoring and Toxicity of Nanomaterials by his invited talk “Predictive environmental toxicology of materials: interplays of chemo-, nano-, micro- and beyond”.
Personal background and Education:
Luděk Bláha (PhD 1999) is a professor at Faculty of Science of Masaryk University (SCI MUNI), Brno, the Cech Republic.
His work experiences include research institutes and universities in the Czech Republic - Institute of Botany of Academy of Science; Veterinary research institute, Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute, and in the USA - Michigan State University (2004-2006). He also completed research stays in Hamburg (Germany), Dundee (Ireland), Burlington (Canada), EAWAG and ETH Zurich (Switzerland).
Within RECETOX centre at the Faculty of Science MUNI, he leads the Environmental Toxicology programme (ca 45 researchers and doctoral students) and lectures several semestral courses. He has supervised 22 successful PhD graduates. Since 2026, he serves as the Dean of Faculty of Science.
He coordinated 14 grant projects as a principal investigator (national and international) and was/is a responsible co-investigator in other 10 extramural projects.
Through international collaborations, supported e.g., by programmes H2020, HEU, COST, NIH, or CONCERT Japan, he developed a large international network of collaborators. He has worked in the evaluation panels of grant agencies in the Czech Republic, Norway, and Estonia, and in the expert and certification panels of EMA, OECD, WHO, SETAC and JRC.
He received the award of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for young scientists in 2007 and the MUNI Scientist award for excellent research results in 2020.
Research interests:
Luděk Bláha has interdisciplinary expertise in biological effects of chemical substances and their risks to health and the environment. He contributed to science by uncovering toxicological mechanisms beyond endocrine disruption and other related effects caused by aquatic pollutants and natural toxins.
