Topological and edge defects and misalignment of graphene layers in few-layer graphene strongly influence its chemical reactivity and thermal stability. In this work, we used transmission electron microscopy and image analysis to determine alignment, degree of rotation, between layers in few-layer graphene prepared by decomposition of ethanol in microwave plasma torch at atmospheric pressure. The prepared nanosheets consisted of 1 to 20 layers, with an interlayer distance of 0.34 nm, and the main structure was formed by the successive growth of individual layers on top of each other. Incomplete overlaid layers were rotated by up to 30 degrees and the nanosheets exhibited predominantly closed edges with opened edges mostly located in layers forming islands on the main structure. Such determined amount of disorder found in few-layer graphene structure agreed with results of Raman spectroscopy analysis and thermal stability, oxidation resistance, analysis by thermal desorption spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis in air.
